SYNOPSIS
The University of Ghana, Legon, is pleased to invite applications for the position of Occupant of the Kwame Nkrumah Chair in African Studies, to begin 1st August, 2020.
The Kwame Nkrumah Chair in African Studies was established at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana in honour of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Pan African luminary and Ghana’s first president, for his contributions to the intellectual life of the African World, and for his projection of Africa on the world stage.
The Institute of African Studies, College of Humanities, University of Ghana is organizing a two-day Symposium on the theme - Reclaiming Lost Narratives: Beyond 400 Years of Enslavement.
This symposium will provide a platform for presenters to discuss their research and public education programmes with the aim of increasing visibility and deepening discussions on issues of the slave trade and its implications over the last 400 years.
The Institute of African Studies invites applications from University of Ghana Ph.D. students for the 2019/2020 Kennell Jackson Award. It is worth USD 500.00.
Kennell Α. Jackson Jr. was a Professor of African history for about 25 years and served as Director of the African and African American Studies programme at the Stanford University for close to a decade.
Dr. Kojo Opoku Aidoo, a Senior Research Fellow at IAS, was invited to speak at the 9th Annual African Unity for Renaissance Conference in Pretoria, South Africa by the Africa Institute of South Africa of the Human Sciences Research Council. In his presentation, Dr. Aidoo called on African leaders to muster courage to surrender the sovereignties of the nation-states in furtherance of African political unification. Dr. Aidoo stressed that the near-consolidation of the nation-state constitutes the single most inordinate obstacle to continental unification.
Horace G. Campbell holds a joint Professorship in the Department of African American Studies and the Department of Political Science, Maxwell School at Syracuse University, in the United States. For the academic year 2016-2017, Professor Campbell is the Kwame Nkrumah Chair of African Studies at the Institute of African Studies, University of Legon, Ghana.
