Prof. Adomako Ampofo named the 2023-2024 Wan­ga­ri Maat­hai Vi­sit­ing Pro­fes­sor­.

Professor Akosua Adomako Ampofo has been named the 2023-2024 Wan­ga­ri Maat­hai Vi­sit­ing Pro­fes­sor­ at the University of Kassel under Global Partnership Network (GPN). The Professorship is established in the context of global partnerships for sustainable development, and is for outstanding senior scientists who have achieved appropriate recognition in their fields.  The professorship honours the prominent Kenyan activist, Wangari Maathai, and stands for her commitment to justice, environmental and human rights.

 

Dr. Appeaning Addo awarded 2022 Urban Studies Foundation (USF) International Fellowship.

Dr. Irene Appeaning Addo has won a 2022 Urban Studies Foundation (USF) International Fellowship and is currently a visiting Research Fellow at the Centre for Advancement of Scholarship, University of Pretoria, South Africa. During the fellowship, Irene will be researching and writing about everyday urbanism in the Airport City I complex in Accra, Ghana. She will explore how the everyday needs of the low-income working group are met and negotiated in a high-class urban space.

IAS hosts two Visiting Research Fellows

The Institute of African Studies is hosting two Visiting Research Fellows to undertake their respective residency at the University of Ghana. The two Fellows are André Fischer, an Assistant Professor from the Washington University in St. Loius, United States and Azza Mustapha Babika Ahmed, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from the Institute for Humanities in Africa (HUMA), University of Cape Town, South Africa. André Fisher and Azza Ahmed are each on a six-month Fellowship Programme, beginning September 2022.

IAS Director speaks at GETSPA annual conference

Prof. Ntewusu addresses participants at the opening session

The Director of the Institute of African Studies, Prof. Samuel Ntewusu, addressed the opening session of the maiden annual conference of the Gender Equitable and Transformative Social Policy for Post-COVID-19 Africa (GETSPA) project. GETSPA is a multi-country research, policy engagement, capacity, and network-building project with a focus on social policy in Africa. The project is hosted by the Institute of African Studies (IAS) at the University of Ghana.
