George Gyasi Gyesaw is the Archivist overseeing the management and operations of the J. H. Kwabena Nketia Archives at the Institute of African Studies (IAS), University of Ghana.

Education and Qualifications

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Information Studies, Geography, and Human Resource Management from the University of Ghana. He further pursued a Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Information Technology (IT) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Professional Experience and Engagement

Mr. Gyesaw has significant experience engaging with archives both locally and internationally, focusing on archival support and learning best practices. He was awarded the TRANS NATIONAL ACCESS FELLOWSHIP to conduct research at the University of Palermo, Italy.

His expertise includes presenting papers at conferences and symposiums on archiving in digital humanities and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in archival science.

  • Secretary: Broadcast Archives Section, International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA).
  • Member: Ghana Studies Association, and International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA).

Archival Research and Projects

Mr. Gyesaw has led or been directly involved in several key archival projects at the Institute of African Studies and beyond, demonstrating his practical expertise in preserving and digitizing cultural heritage:
