The Principal Investigators, Administrators, and Institutional Heads from Africa, Latin America, Asia, North America and Europe of the Mellon Funded Humanities Across Borders: Asia and Africa in the World Program are locked in a strategy meeting in the Northern Thailand City of Chiang Mai. The program just completed the first phase of experimentation, and is moving into the next phase of institutionalization ie 2021 to 2026. The next phase is expanded, and seeks to anchor the program in the respective institutions, including the University of Ghana.

The Institute of African Studies (IAS), in collaboration with the Anthropology of Human Security in Africa (ANTHUSIA), a multi-disciplinary research project in Anthropology of Human Security hosted a Summer School at the J.H.Nketia Conference Hall, Kwame Nkrumah Complex from 5^th to 12^th January 2020. The School, under the theme“Human Security and Anthropological Analysis”, was put together by a consortium of four European Universities with funding from the European Union. These Universities are Aarhus, Edinburgh, Leuven and Oslo.

The Institute of African Studies, in collaboration with the Takemi Programme in International Health at the Harvard University held a one-day symposium on Tuesday, 12 November 2019 at the J. H. K. Nketia Conference Hall under the theme, Girls in the SDG Era: Health, Equity and Education.  The symposium was coordinated by Dr. Deborah Atobrah, Senior Research Fellow of the IAS.

The Institute of African Studies hosted a one-day symposium under the theme, “Infrastructural Legacies and Future of the African City” at the J. H. K Nketia Conference, Hall, Kwame Nkrumah Complex on Monday, 4^th November, 2019. The symposium was a collaboration between the Institute and the University of Basel, Switzerland and it sought to bring together actors and thinkers from multiple backgrounds across the North/South divide.

Three faculty members of the Institute of African Studies, Drs. Deborah Atobrah, Mjiba Frehiwot and Genevieve Nrenzah would from the 23^rd to 26^th October 2019 attend the Biennial Conference of the Association of the African Studies of Africa (AASA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Dr. Deborah Atobrah would continue from Nairobi to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to participate in the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting from 27^th to 31^st October 2019.

The Institute of African Studies on Wednesday, 16 October 2019 received a donation from Ms Yvonne Borloz and Ms Arlette Senn-Borloz, daughters of a Swiss Merchant and Engineer, Mr Albert Lucien Borloz (1899-1993), who lived and worked in the Gold Coast in the 20^th Century. The items donated were a collection of Mr Borloz’s personal belongings that he used during his stay in the Gold Coast from 1918 to 1920.  The donation was facilitated by the Swiss Embassy in Ghana and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana.
