The Institute of African Studies Library, housed in the old Africans Studies Building, was established in 1961 to supplement the Africana collection in Balme Library, the central library in the University. It also supports teaching, learning and research activities in the Institute, to advance knowledge about the peoples and culture of Africa.
The Library has a rich collection of resources on all aspect of African Studies, in the form of stool histories, court records, Field notes and reports, oral traditions, books, journals, old and current newspapers, manuscripts and theses. The Library has internet connectivity that allows access to a number of academic journals.
The opening hours during the semester are as follows:
Mondays - Fridays: 8.30 am - 10:00 pm
Saturdays: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Mondays - Fridays 8.30am - 5:00 pm
